Cawthorne Choral Society is a friendly non-auditioning choir with around 60 voices of varying ages. We rehearse regularly through the year and perform three key concerts anually in Cawthorne Church. We also perform for local charities on request.

This site provides information about upcoming concerts, a brief history of the choir, a background of our musical director and details about becoming a patron. Patronage is something that really helps secure the future of the choir and is a rewarding way to support the organisation.

Contact details are also provided should you be interested in becoming a member or patron, purchasing concert tickets, or have any other enquiry.

A Message from the Musical Director

As we work towards the first concert in our 2017/18 season, I have to formally announce that my tenure as Musical Director of this wonderful Society is coming to an end. At the end of the 2015/16 season I informed the Society that most reluctantly I had made the decision to stand down following the Summer Concert in 2018. It is not a decision I have taken without a great deal of thought and much regret, but it has been necessary for purely personal reasons.

As you may know, I was appointed in 1994 and conducted my first concert in the Spring of 1995, when the main work in the programme was Mozart's "Requiem." I have chosen this work specifically for our concert in March next year, along with some other Passiontide pieces, so in a sense I have come full circle. I'm sure you will realize that this season may well be an emotionally challenging time for all concerned. Even at this stage I am not certain that I have got to grips with my decision to leave. I have been so privileged to work with the Society and I will never forget their friendship, dedication to all our musical work and the loyalty they have shown me.

Our first concert this season, our Christmas one, takes place in Cawthorne Parish Church on Saturday, December 2nd, at 7:30pm and our special guests will be our own Cawthorne Brass Band. Tickets will be available from Cawthorne Post Offic e, Cawthorne Village Stores and Choir members. Tickets may also be available on the door. However, our Christmas concert is always extremely popular so please get your tickets as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. If you experience difficulty in obtaining tickets please email us at: www.cawthorne-choral.co.uk
